Here are a few of my favorite ways to cook an egg:
Scrambled eggs: Crack the eggs into a bowl, add a splash of milk or cream, and whisk until well combined. Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat and add a pat of butter or a drizzle of oil. Pour in the eggs and use a spatula to stir constantly until they reach your desired level of doneness.
Sunny-side up: Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat and add a pat of butter or a drizzle of oil. Crack the egg into the pan and cook until the white is set and the yolk is still runny.
Boiled eggs: Place the eggs in a single layer in a saucepan and add enough cold water to cover the eggs by about an inch. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to a low simmer and cook for 6-8 minutes for medium-sized eggs. Drain the eggs and immediately place them in an ice water bath to stop the cooking process.
Omelette: Crack the eggs into a bowl, add a splash of milk or cream, and whisk until well combined. Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat and add a pat of butter or a drizzle of oil. Pour in the eggs and use a spatula to push the edges towards the center, allowing the uncooked egg to flow out to the edges of the pan. Add your desired fillings (such as cheese, veggies, or meats) to one half of the omelette, then fold the other half over the top. Cook until the omelette is set and the cheese is melted.
Poached eggs: Fill a saucepan with water and bring it to a simmer. Crack the eggs into a small bowl or ramekin. Swirl the water to create a whirlpool, then carefully pour the eggs into the center of the whirlpool. Cook for 3-4 minutes, or until the whites are set and the yolks are still runny. Use a slotted spoon to gently lift the eggs out of the water and drain any excess water before serving.
